Just a quick update.
Been struggling with the sculpting. Couldn't quite get him to look right. I've been cutting out chunks from him and re-sculpting small sections. Good thing that Green Stuff is very sticky.
I put a base coat on the base and shed. The wood panels on the sides of the roof are not included in the kit, even though they are shown in the box art. So I made them by cutting strips from the 'flash' of the vac-form sheets.
I added a few cables to the motorcycle to make it look busier. There should be many more but that's too much work.

Interesting suggestion, Alexander. I don't think my base is big enough for a Kubelwagen, though. But I have an old Tamiya flak that's collected a lot of dust. It seems to fit in that space. Maybe I'll put it in, but I'll have to spend some time to clean the dust!
I glued the tables together because I found it impossible to glue wires on the communications equipment with the tables moving around all the time. Again I only added enough cables to make it look somewhat busy. If I try to make it more accurate it'll drive me crazy.
I've just primed the figures except for The Messenger, since I'm still trying to sculpt him. I sprayed them black all over and white only from the top to bring out the contrasts.

A flak seems also a good idea, as Air Defence for the comunication station…
Don't you think that a kubelwagen or a schwimmwagen would fit on the right side of the house ?
Hi guys,
Thanks for checking out my build progress. I haven't made much progress so I thought I shouldn't make so many uneventful posts. But since you asked, I have an excuse
The following is literally a snapshot of the current status of my build:
I don't think there's enough room for a Kubelwagen. That should become clear once all the pieces are put in place. Plus as it is I may be running out of time to finish this build in time for the contest. The flak is already built. So it's kind of a cheat
Yes I do plan to add some grass to the base. Probably clumps of grass to give a patchy look.
I haven't painted a figured for over half a year now. When I last painted I was just making the switch from enamels to Vallejo acrylics, and I'm still struggling to learn how to do it. I read articles by experts and while I'm very impressed by what they can do, I cannot even imagine myself putting on like 30 coats of carefully controlled changing colors. It'll drive me crazy! So I've been and still am experimenting with different ways of achieving reasonable results with the least amount of work
I started with the 2 guys who almost can't be seen when the dio is finished. This way I get to practice without ruining the project right from the beginning. I used a combination (and many failed iterations!) of airbrushing, washing, and dry brushing. In the following pic these 2 guys have their clothes painted and shaded to the best of my abilities. Skin and other details still need more work.
I also did one of the arms of the Messenger using Milliput. You can see that compared to a DML soldier he is almost a head taller. That's intentional because I want him to literally stand out from the crowd. However, it might look like he's just overscale
The chairs from the DML kit are very poorly done. So I made 2 new ones using brass wire and tissue paper. It's a lot of work and I need 3 chairs, so I snapped a branch from a tree in my backyard and cut it up to make a stool of sorts for the 3rd chair.
