Rogers M9 45-Ton Trailer – Accurate Armour
A complete 1/35th scale resin and etched brass kit of the famous “Rogers” 45 Ton Tank Transporter/Recovery Trailer.
This model designed by David Jane and Rob Tearle features fully detailed suspension with articulating bogies and steerable front carriage, moveable ramps and alternative ramp/chock options. A full set of tie-downs, tensioners, chains and blocks are also included. Also included are the recovery pully blocks for recovery versions. Decals are included with a good selection of UK markings and options for US Army & Canadian use.
The original 40 Ton trailer was designd in the UK by Cranes (Dereham) Ltd. and Cranes 40-Ton trailers were produced in the UK; however the design was passed to Rogers Brothers Corporation, Albion, USA for large scale production and as over 6,700 were made in the USA the name “Rogers” is always used. Other US producers included Winter-Weiss, Fruehauf, Pointer-Wilamette and Checker Cab.
The trailer was made to match the Diamond-T Motor Car Company design M980/981 tractor from Chicago USA for a 1941 British Army requirement to haul and recover tanks in the 40 Ton class. The M9 served throughout all UK theatres of operation in WW-2 and a few years post-war. The M9 was also sold and supplied to over 20 nations world-wide, and you even come across some now (2012!)
In UK service Diamond-T tractors and many more M9 Rogers trailers were despatched to North Africa (Note that only M9 Rogers trailers were used in North Africa) and the flexibility of the design allowed many other tractors to tow the M9 including Scammels, AEC’s and many other tractors. From landing craft to ammunition, tanks, trucks and captured hardware; the Rogers M9 was always up to the task and is possibly one of the finest trailer designs of it’s era.
