Dragon: 2nd SAS Regiment w/Welbike and Drop Tube Container, France 1944 . Review by Cookie Sewell.

6586 Red Devils w/Welbike
Every major country formed airborne forces for the Second World War – the USSR, Germany, Britain and the US. But as these were light infantry whose only great advantage was mobility, they either needed specialized weapons which could drop with them or glider-borne support vehicles and systems. While the gliders were capable of carrying standard weapons like jeeps and light antitank guns up to 57mm caliber, the same was not true of the C-47 (Dakota) transports which were the primary carrier for US and UK airborne troops. Both countries developed small courier motorcycles which could be air-dropped for forces once on the ground, with the US creating a Cushman and the UK the Welbike.

Centurion vs T-55
Centurion vs T-55
Yom Kippur War 1973
Conceived at the height of World War II, the British Centurion and the Soviet T-55 were initially expected to counter the formidable Panther and Tiger tanks of Germany. But as the Cold War unfolded, these machines prepared instead for the coming struggle between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Though they never fought in Europe, these two tanks became the mainstay of the Cold War’s proxy forces around the world.
From Korea to the Middle East and on to Angola, these two armored combatants clashed repeatedly, reaching their crescendo on the Golan Heights during the Yom Kippur War where 177 Centurions of the IDF took on a vastly superior Arab force. This book compares the design, development and deployment of these classic tanks, and analyses their battlefield performance. Presented with highly detailed digital artwork, this is a tightly focused study of two of the Cold War’s first main battle tanks.

ANTAR Mk-3 (5th Wheel) Tractor
Along the Mk2 Accurate Armour releases the Antar Mk3 version.
The final Mk-3 version was a major rework and incorporated the Rolls-Royce 16.2 litre C8SFL/843 diesel engine. The revised bodywork with single radiator gave a more sleek look. All the lessons learned from the early vehicles were incorporated into the Mk-3, making it a refined, reliable and professional classic.
ANTAR was ultimately replaced by the equally impressive Scammell Commander and those familiar with Commander will see from this model how that design evolved.
This extensive 1:35th scale resin model kit by David Jane & Rob Tearle depicts the FV12004 Mk-3 (5th Wheel) version for towing semi-trailers. The kit comes with an etched brass detailing set, extensive full colour decals and full chassis, cab interior, engine, transmission and winch details, and an optional canvas crew shelter over the winch area.
Accurate Armour has also : matching trailer kits (K60s) Crane Fruehauf 70-Ton, (K169) Tasker 50-Ton, and (K170) Sankey 60-Ton (under development).

ANTAR Mk-2
The Thornycroft Mighty Antar was originally developed in 1949 as a super-heavy civilian 6×4 tractor for hauling steel pipeline sections across the Iraqi desert. It was named in honour of the Arabian Poet-warrior Antar Ibn Shadded (famed for his strength and endurance).
At the time ANTAR was the largest tractor ever made in the UK and was further developed as a tank transporter for the British Army, and over a period of 35 years from the early 1950′s to mid 1980′s, Mighty ANTAR performed all the British Army heavy haulage tasks. Whether the load was a; Centurion, Conqueror, Chieftain or a host of lesser tonnage AFV’s, ANTAR lugged them around from A to B.
ANTAR was ultimately replaced by the equally impressive Scammell Commander.
This extensive 1:35th scale resin model kit by David Jane & Rob Tearle depicts the FV12003 Mk-2 (Ballasted) version for towing drawbar trailers. The kit comes with an etched brass detailing set, extensive full colour decals and full chassis, cab interior, engine, transmission and winch details. Complete ballast body with removable weights, and an optional canvas crew shelter over the winch area.
