Actually the HobbyBoss designations might not be totally wrong.
First of all, the so-called Type 98 never existed within the PLA, because the designation was always ZTZ-99 or Type 99. Next upgrade version with the additional armor modules and 1500 hp engine are called Type 99G in the test phase then re-designated to Type 99A. The one being seen on the military parade 2009 in Beijing is the Type 99A1 aka 99B with the slightly re-designed turret (no hump on the top) with new pattern of armor blocks.
The Type 99A2 which might also be designated Type 99C, has not entered service yet but stillundergoing numerous fieldings since late 2007.
This latest variant has even more bulky turret armor, re-desgined tail because of the new engine, new frontlights, bigger thermal scope and a new defensive system replacing the laser-dazzler.

Good point! and consider also that "ZTZ" is the top keyword in the AFV NEWS search engine! Many people seem interested into it.
Have also a look at Bronco Model ZTZ!

Finally a few models (The TZT-99, 99A and 99B from Hobbyboss and the TZT-99A1 from Bronco Models) that are different from the never ending stream of U.S. and German vehicles.

From a first glance the model really looks well, the only downside is the name given by HobbyBoss, there is no TZT-99B!

The correct name would be TZT-99A2 (which is still in a testing fase with the intention to take it into production).
